Their site CLAIMS that they have free hosting, but when you fill out all the info, they want to charge $19.95 & require a credit card. Not free!

It is free, depending on choices made. But activation is not instant.

The claim that they charge $19.95 for web hosting reflects unfamiliarity with internet terminology on the part of "on 2007-03-19 by 24.34.x.x". They offer free web HOSTING if you have already REGISTERED YOUR INTERNET DOMAIN. They also allow sub-domains to be hosted as yourdomain.freehostia.com, but doing this makes many of the features away from the free web hosting account. You have to have your domain registered with someone else. A cheap registrar will let you register your domain for under $12/year (in 2007). I register my domains through google for $10/year and it comes with the standard sort of features you would expect with a full-service registrar: e.g., they provide a privacy guard on your name and address, where the information is held confidential by the registrar. I had a trouble ticket in getting set up, and it was responded to twice in two hours in the middle of the night. I rated them as "pretty good", but if you consider that the cost is $0, you'd need to interpret that as "outstanding". In this case, you truly can get "something for nothing". If you started to need a "real web site", you might want to consider going to another provider. Even so, unless you are getting lots of hits, switching to one of the "pay" account plans at this site is competitive. Do NOT try to augment your free account with pay add-ons. Chances are, you will quickly rocket to a higher cost than you would by changing providers or switching account plans with Freetopia.

It does have free hosting as well as paid hosting. The free hosting has no ads, decent space, and quite good uptime for a free host. Scripting support is quite good for a free hosting service including PHP, MySQL, and PHPMyAdmin. Service also includes Elephante scripts, which painlessly installs a number of scripts including CMS, bulletin boards, and the like. Biggest limitation is small bandwidth limit and file-size upload limit of 500k (although my scripts have uploaded 2MB files with no problems)

They do have free hosting - they only charge $19.95 if you register a new domain, it's in their Terms and Conditions.

24.34.x.x apparently chose the wrong radio button, probably with the option "register a new domain name" I picked "use a subdomain" and it was 0.00, although the invoice system kind of bugs me, it says that the "order" (although the total is 0.00) is going to be verified by their staff, which is weird, does that mean you can't enter some gibberish (as I did) in the registration form, idk?
